15 Things People Like Less and Less The Older They Get
The older you get, the more your tastes change. The things you used to enjoy as a young person you may not like anymore. In an online discussion, several people shared things they like less and less the older they get. The following are the top fifteen responses.
1. Crowds
As we age, we tend to prefer solitude over being surrounded by large crowds of people. One woman shared that being around a bunch of people grouped together is guaranteed to start an argument. Whether at sporting events, airports, or theme parks, somebody is always making a scene.
2. Loud Noises
Someone remarked that they feel like they've become much more sensitive to all sorts of noises as time has passed. It could be a loud TV, a neighbor's barking dog, or the sound of construction outside; it seems like we become much more sensitive to all sorts of noises as time passes.
3. Working
Working is another thing that many of us like less and less as we get older. We weren't meant to spend most of our waking hours at a job we don't enjoy. One woman said that we weren't meant to spend most of our waking hours working hard and that she would prefer to be in the forest eating fruit.
4. Social Media
Many of us long for the days when social media was just a way to connect with friends and family, not a constant stream of advertisements and clickbait. One person shared that with the constantly changing algorithms and everything feeling jumbled and based on what companies want you to see instead of what you actually want, it all just feels like way too much digital noise.
5. Dating
A lot of older people seem to outright dread dating. One woman shared that she used to get so excited over dates, but now she's become disenchanted about them. Maybe it's because we've been hurt before, or we're just tired of playing games, but the thought of going out on another date can be exhausting.
6. Party Culture
Party culture is another thing that many of us are starting to dislike as we get older. One man shared that he can still enjoy a drink or two but doesn't want to spend the next day recovering and regretting his life choices.
7. Malls and Shopping in General
Between the crowds, the noise, and the hassle of finding a parking spot, going to the mall isn't what it used to be. One woman shared that she used to love going shopping with friends and getting a dose of retail therapy. Now, she avoids malls and just dreads shopping altogether.
8. Regular Social Activity
One woman remarked that while it can be fun to be social, it's also good to sit with yourself from time to time. For many of us, spending time with our spouse or partner is all the social activity we need. It's essential to find a balance between socializing and enjoying our own company.
9. Really Sweet Food
When we were younger, we could eat as much candy, cake, and ice cream as we wanted without getting sick of it. But as we grow older, our tastes change, and we become more sensitive to sweetness. One woman recalled eating chocolate cake every day when she was younger, but now she can barely finish a slice. She went on to explain that it's not that she has a condition, but just can't stand the taste of overly sweet food anymore.
10. Being Out in Public
Young people love going out and spending time hanging out with friends, but as you get older, spending time at home is much more appealing. One woman shared that she used to enjoy going out to people-watch at local cafes and restaurants. But, as she's gotten older, she enjoys just chilling at home by herself or with a few close friends.
11. Holidays
As we age, holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter lose their appeal. Someone shared that if she weren't married or had children, she would probably go about her day like any other.
12. Video Games
The thrill of staying up late or rushing home to play video games with friends has lost its appeal. One man remarked that while he still plays for hours at a time, it just doesn't feel the same as it did before. He reminisced that nothing could compare to the days of getting out of school and playing CoD with the boys all night.
13. High-heeled Shoes
One woman shared that unless it's a special occasion, many women prefer to wear comfortable shoes. High heels are often painful and impractical, and many women would rather wear sneakers or sandals.
14. Summer Weather
When we were younger, we loved the heat and humidity of summer. We couldn't wait to go to the beach or pool and soak up the sun. But as we get older, we become more sensitive to the heat and humidity.
15. New Movies
As we age, it's hard for new movies to live up to our expectations, and we'd rather watch something we know and love. One man shared that while there are some good ones out there, most of us are over superhero movies, sequels, and remakes. We prefer movies made between 1970 and 2000, which bring back memories of our youth.
